Since its inception, GEO600 has been leading in the development of novel technologies for interferometric gravitational wave detectors. It is a think tank and testbed for advanced detector techniques. Developments by the Max Planck Society, Leibniz Universität, and UK scientists working in the GEO collaboration are crucial to the impressive sensitivity of the LIGO and Virgo instruments and their successful observations of gravitational waves.
