Seismic Noise
Horizontal microseismic noise on the inner part of the split foundation in the E end building at Ruthe, produced by a person, a car, seismic background and electric noise. By David I. Robertson
| person | someone moving in the building (1.7 µm) |
| car | a car driving up and down outside (5.6 µm) |
| background |
"normal" seismic noise (0.35 µm) |
| el. noise | measurement noise (0.33 µm) |
The figures in brackets are the rms motion integrated between 0.0 5Hz and 1.0 Hz.
The measurements were taken in quiet weather conditions.
These measurements were made using a Teledyne Geotech short period seismometer. Basicaly a big mass, constrained to move horizontally and with a fairly well damped resonance at around 1Hz. Sensing is by a coil/magnet arrangement.
