Audio Files
Gravitational waves come in a large frequency range, from mHz to kHz. The earth-bound detectors are limited to frequencies larger than some 10 Hz, by the unavoidable seismic noise. GEO600 operates between 50 Hz and 2 kHz, i.e. in the audio frequency range. Therefore, the gravitational wave signals can be amplified and made audible.
Up to now, since measurements of gravitational waves are not yet available we can present only simulations of signals. The following are audio files in the mp3 format.
- GEO 600 Noise
The noise of the GEO 600 detector. - BH/NS Signal
The sound of a neutron star inspiralling into a black hole.
